I have read that a campaign has been started to refuse the imposition of Septimanie denomination in the French administrative region of Languedoc-Roussillon. This name was first proposed by Georges Frèche, president of the region and ex-mayor of Montpellier. Therefore, he started to invest a huge amount of marketing resources for this purpose.
No doubt the initiative of recovering 'Septimania' from historical oblivion is intended to minimize any Catalan or Occitan reference in the given territories with an aseptic denomination which may be more compatible within current status in force. This responds to the same procedure followed throughout History, for instance, in Northern Catalonia. In this country we can find the historical origin of Catalonia, with referential villages such as Rià.
